The Rose design was popular in English heraldry , and also in the middle ages for a symbol of silence and secrecy.
The Tudor Rose, however, is a double rose which represents the end of the War of Roses in which Two family's fought for the crown of England.
The House of Lancaster's emblem was a Red Rose and the House of York was a white rose and when Henry Tudor( of Lancaster ancestry) took the crown and married Elizabeth of York the two roses were conjoined creating this design.
