The hexagram is one of the most ancient of all symbols, dating back to 800-600 BC, in consequence it has been used through the ages by a number of faiths and cultures. The Muslims referred to it as Solomon's Seal, the alcemists in the middle ages used it as a general symbol of alcemy and it has even been used in witchcraft.
The symbol today, however, is universally recognized as the Star of David and represents Judaism, deriving from the belief that the hexagram was used as an emblem by the biblical King David.
